Last month we visited one of the John Deere plants near Augusta, Georgia and had the opportunity to preview their new lineup of utility tractors, zero-turn mowers, and riding mowers.

These tractors and riding mowers are aimed at residential customers and hobby farmers. Though we had little prior experience with this type of equipment, we found them very approachable: it’s simple to climb aboard and start working.
The primary selling point is ease of use. People who choose a riding mower usually have more lawn than is practical with a push mower and want a straightforward, efficient way to maintain their yard.
While riding mowers require a bit more storage space than a push mower, they are not heavy construction equipment. John Deere and other manufacturers include many comfort and convenience features such as cup holders, headlights, onboard storage, and cushioned seats.
Home Depot now offers a full lineup of riding mowers, including the John Deere D100 series, which will soon be succeeded by the E110. They also stock a range of zero-turn models similar to those we tested during our visit.
The new E100 series introduces the Easy Change 30-Second Oil Change System. This integrated system allows users to replace the oil by twisting on a cartridge that contains both oil and filter—no engine oil drainage required. What was once a slow, messy, and challenging chore becomes quick, clean, and easy.
Traditional riding mowers are among the simplest machines to own, operate, and maintain. Most models from John Deere, Toro, and Cub Cadet feature supportive seats, large steering wheels, and conveniently placed pedals.

Zero-turn mowers take a bit more practice to master, but they are extremely fast and maneuverable. They use a pair of control levers: pushing both forward moves the mower forward, pulling both back reverses it, and operating the levers in opposite directions lets you spin on the spot for tight turning.
Before heading to the store, you can browse Home Depot’s full range of John Deere mowers on their website, along with models from top brands such as Toro, Ariens, and Cub Cadet.
Doing online research first and printing comparison notes to bring with you can make shopping easier and help you choose the best model for your needs.
If you’ve been considering an upgrade, spring is a great time to treat yourself to a riding mower.
