3M Auto Boot Camp: Start Your Vehicle Care Training Today

This article is the first installment from Tabatha Muntzinger recounting her experience at the 3M Auto Boot Camp, where she donned work gloves and safety glasses to test a wide range of new automotive products.

In April, I joined a talented group of bloggers and journalists in St. Paul, Minnesota, invited to participate in 3M’s Auto Boot Camp. I’ll admit that although I’m an enthusiastic DIYer with solid general skills, I tend to avoid vehicle maintenance. After spending so much time working on my home, I’d rather pay a professional to change my oil than attempt it myself.

During our visit to 3M’s headquarters, we learned a great deal about their expanding Auto Care line. The collection was developed in response to growing consumer interest in tackling routine car-care tasks at home. 3M has addressed a broad range of projects and vehicle-care needs—designed so that even those who aren’t automotive experts can achieve noticeable improvements in appearance, function, and perform straightforward repairs with confidence.

What impressed me most about the visit wasn’t just the products themselves, but 3M’s commitment to moving from inspiration to innovation in ways that improve people’s daily lives. The company fosters an environment where great ideas can come from anyone, and employees at all levels—from executives to maintenance and janitorial staff—are encouraged to spend 15% of their paid time developing and pursuing new concepts. Many of 3M’s best-known products grew from this internal support and the company’s belief that every idea has the potential to become both practical and valuable for customers.

That philosophy explains a lot about why 3M remains an industry leader: investing in employees and nurturing collaboration tends to produce meaningful, enduring results. Their approach creates a culture where innovation is part of everyday work, and that commitment shows in the tools and solutions they bring to market.

There are many products to cover from the Auto Care line, so I’ll share more details in a follow-up post. For now, I’m excited to explore how these new 3M offerings can help homeowners and casual car owners feel more capable handling routine maintenance and cosmetic updates at home.
