A tip from one of my favorite local blogs led me to a new must-read site. Dwelling:3918 chronicles a Kansas City family’s effort to fully renovate a 122-year-old stone home in the picturesque Hyde Park neighborhood.
Like many older houses, this one has presented several challenges: a leaning chimney and a roof in worse shape than average after years of tree neglect, among other issues documented on the blog.
The posts are concise and informative, and the site contains a rich collection of photos that serve both as a visual record of the renovation and as inspiration for anyone facing similar restoration work. The images and step-by-step updates make it easy to follow the project and learn from the choices the homeowners make.
Finding such a thorough local resource means I’ll be checking in often. There’s something compelling about following homeowners who tackle tough DIY projects with determination and creativity, and Dwelling:3918 delivers that kind of vicarious experience.
More broadly, have you considered documenting a whole-home renovation or occasional projects through a blog? Many homeowners find that sharing progress helps them stay organized, motivates them through setbacks, and connects them with useful advice from others. If you’ve already blogged a renovation, what benefits or challenges did you encounter? If you haven’t, would you try it while balancing the demands of remodeling?
