New Ford Bronco Shows Real Overlanding Capability

Overlanders everywhere are excited about the new Bronco. Its off-road capability rivals the Jeep Rubicon, and it promises more comfort and practical features for extended overland trips than many competitors.

Ford has showcased that potential with an Overland-ready Bronco concept designed to emphasize the vehicle’s long-distance exploration capabilities and terrain versatility.

The Bronco Overland concept will debut at this year’s Bronco Super Celebration East in Townsend, TN. It’s built on the 2021 Bronco four-door SUV Badlands™ platform and finished in an Area 51 paint scheme to highlight its adventurous character.

Bronco Overland Suspension and Tires

The Bronco Overland is fitted with the High-Performance Off-road Stability Suspension (H.O.S.S.) system, featuring Bilstein® position-sensitive dampers to improve ride control across varied terrain. It uses the 2.3-liter EcoBoost® engine paired with the class-exclusive 7-speed manual transmission. Rolling on 17-inch Fifteen52™ Turbomatic heavy-duty wheels in asphalt black and wrapped in 35-inch BFGoodrich® LT315/70R-17 KM3 mud-terrain tires, the Overland setup prioritizes traction and durability for serious off-road use.

Bronco Overland Recovery Gear and Rooftop Tent

The front end features a Ford Performance by WARN® winch mounted to a modular steel bumper for dependable recovery capability on difficult trails. A heavy-duty two-person Yakima™ roof tent and a factory roof rack attach to the roof rails, providing quick, comfortable shelter. For visibility, the roof rack carries a 1×40 RIGID™ rack-mounted light bar plus six additional RIGID POD lights arranged in a 360-degree configuration. A tall CB antenna mounted to the rear bumper enhances long-distance communication while on remote routes.

Bronco Overland Storage and Camp Setup

The rear area is configured as the mobile basecamp. It includes an ARB refrigerator and a cooking station with a dedicated stove mounted on a cargo management system for efficient food prep and storage. The refrigerator sits on a slide-out tray for easy access, and a tailgate table with chairs completes the campsite layout. The rear quarter window features rigid panels with integrated MOLLE grids to expand organized storage options in the cargo area.
