Transform Your Home with the Whirlpool Duet Washer and Dryer

The centerpiece of our laundry room renovation was, unsurprisingly, the appliances. Our old washer and dryer were more than a decade old and still functioned, but they lacked the energy- and water-saving technologies found in modern machines.

With a new baby at home, we knew our laundry needs would increase and become more varied. We wanted machines with thoughtful features—more cycles, better fabric care, and efficient performance—so we spent time comparing brands and models.

Brightly colored models from Samsung and Electrolux caught our eye, but after weighing features, reliability, and overall value, we chose Whirlpool Duet models: a 4.3 cu. ft. front-load washer and a 7.4 cu. ft. gas dryer.

We had never used front-loading machines before, but stacking them was the best way to optimize our space. Changing the dryer door swing to match the washer was simple and only required a Phillips screwdriver, so installation was straightforward.

When the units arrived, the Lowe’s delivery team helped with installation and passed along a useful tip: spray a little Windex on the floor to help slide heavy appliances into place. It protects your back and reduces the chance of floor damage.

On the dryer, features that stood out to us were the steam option and the quick-dry cycle. Learning to use the correct settings makes a real difference—proper cycles save energy and yield better results for different fabric types.

The washer is designed for efficiency: it senses load size to use only the water required, and it offers a “wash now / dry later” function that periodically tumbles the load so clothes don’t sit damp until you’re ready to dry them.

After several months of use, our laundry routine feels noticeably improved. Clothes come out fresher and with fewer wrinkles. The washer requires HE (high-efficiency) detergent, which is important because HE machines use far less water and energy than traditional top-load agitator washers.

HE washers can use 20% to 66% less water and 50% to 80% less energy, since less water needs heating. Their low-water wash and rinse cycles are most effective when paired with low-sudsing HE detergents that rinse cleanly.

Overall, the Whirlpool Duet washer and dryer simplified our laundry and made our daily routines easier. If you’re considering an upgrade, visiting a local Lowe’s store can be helpful—staff can demonstrate features and guide you toward the model that best fits your household needs.
