Always Be Ready is the guiding motto of 5.11 Tactical. Known for tactical apparel, footwear, and gear, the company is expanding its mission by offering free instructional classes designed to teach practical readiness skills to the public.
Called the 5.11 ABR (Always Be Ready) Academy, this initiative will deliver in-person classes at 5.11’s 45 company-owned retail locations. The curriculum centers on five key areas: trauma care, self-defense, everyday and concealed carry, fitness, and outdoor adventure. These topics align closely with the practical lifestyle many 5.11 customers embrace. Each course will be led by certified professionals who provide hands-on instruction and real-world guidance so participants can build useful, applicable skills.
“One of the main focuses of 5.11’s company-owned retail expansion plan is to make 5.11 stores experiential retail destinations,” said Jeff Roberts, Senior Vice President of Retail at 5.11. “We will provide our consumers with not only the gear they need to be ready, but also practical experiences to help them be prepared.” Roberts added that the 5.11 ABR Academy will transform stores into more than just points of sale—turning them into interactive consumer destinations that offer meaningful training and engagement.
These free classes support personal empowerment and practical preparedness. The program addresses everyday risks and situations where basic training—like trauma response or self-defense—can make a measurable difference. Rather than relying on luck or remaining unprepared, participants can leave better equipped to handle emergencies and outdoor challenges.
The ABR Academy is built to be accessible and relevant, offering beginner-friendly sessions as well as more advanced instruction for those seeking to deepen their skills. Trauma care classes focus on essential lifesaving techniques and how to use common first-aid tools; self-defense courses teach situational awareness and practical defensive tactics; concealed-carry instruction covers responsible carry practices and legal considerations; fitness sessions emphasize functional conditioning suited to tactical and outdoor pursuits; and outdoor-adventure workshops cover skills such as navigation, trip planning, and safety in remote environments.
Every class is presented by experienced instructors who blend professional certification with real-world experience. This ensures participants receive both the technical knowledge and practical context needed to apply what they learn. Classes are free, require registration, and aim to create a community around preparedness—encouraging participants to practice and continue developing their skills after the session ends.
