After a year of use, my Danner Stronghold boots remain my preferred work boots for everyday wear.
I’ve been a fan of Danner footwear for years, so when they invited me to try the Stronghold boots I agreed right away. I wear them as often for hands-on projects as I do around town. Here’s what I’ve learned from a year of regular use.
Comfort
I have little patience for uncomfortable work boots; I can usually tell within seconds whether a pair will work for me. The Strongholds felt right from the start and have been comfortable for months.
There was essentially no break-in period. I’ve worn them for long days on tradeshow floors in Las Vegas, while digging trenches on our ranch, and during hikes in the Mojave Desert without foot fatigue or hotspots.
Durability
After a year of regular use, my boots still look nearly as good as the day I first put them on. That surprised me; I used to think a boot had to be stiff and uncomfortable to be durable, but the Strongholds prove that’s not true.
The outsole includes a wear patch that shows thoughtful design, and the laces and soles have held up well through mud, rain, and long days on rough terrain. Stitching and materials show minimal signs of breakdown, and the construction has stayed solid.
Design
The Stronghold’s clean, understated styling makes them versatile. After a quick brush-off they pass easily for casual city wear, so I don’t feel out of place at dinners around Los Angeles. The simple, classic lines are a Danner hallmark, and these boots carry that tradition well.
Color options are straightforward: brown or black for men, and black or gray for women. My wife wears the women’s black pair and is as impressed as I am. She appreciates the composite safety toe — it protected her when a sheet of plywood was accidentally dropped on her foot, preventing injury.
