SynLawn Artificial Grass Transforms Our Backyard into Lush Turf

Despite regular watering and effort, our lawn stayed patchy and damaged. Part of the problem was that our dog prefers to relieve himself in the same small area, leaving a section where grass never recovers. That created an uneven surface with healthy grass next to bare, compacted spots. It was far from an ideal play area for our growing child, who actually tends to avoid the yard.

We had been thinking about artificial turf for some time, both for the front yard and a bare dirt patch in the back. For a while the idea of synthetic grass sounded like the old, stiff green carpet people used to cover porches in the 1980s. But modern options are much more realistic. After checking products at a local home improvement store, we chose Synlawn and were impressed by the quality and appearance.

Synlawn is remarkably close to real grass in look and texture. It’s available in different pile heights and can be trimmed to fit any space. The material is designed to be safe for both children and pets, and many Synlawn products don’t require infill. Once you prepare and level the base, installing the turf is as simple as unrolling it and securing the edges.

Our installation process was straightforward. We purchased 6-inch landscape nails and secured the turf along the perimeter every four to six inches. To minimize seams, we worked to use as few pieces as possible. When seams were necessary, careful cutting with a carpet knife or box cutter let us align edges neatly for a seamless appearance.

Maintenance has been easy. We rinse the surface occasionally and use a leaf blower weekly to remove debris. One downside is that the turf becomes noticeably warm during hot midday sun, so we tend to wear shoes if we’re walking across it at peak temperatures. Despite that, the advantages have been significant: our son and his friends now have a clean, safe surface to play on, we save water, and the yard stays green year-round without the hassles of mowing and patch repair.
