We recently attended a wedding celebration at Sandy Valley Ranch, about 45 minutes from Las Vegas. The ranch lets you play cowboy for a day, but what we enjoyed most was meeting the animals. There are goats, chickens, pigs and even the occasional turtle wandering around. Our favorite, however, was a foal that had been born just one day before our visit.
The foal didn’t have a name, so we asked the staff at Sandy Valley Ranch if we could help pick one. They agreed, and we decided to let our readers suggest names for this gangly little colt. To make the process more fun, we offered a $100 Home Depot gift card to the person who suggested the winning name. The final choice will be determined by votes on our Facebook page.
How to Enter
- Leave one or more name suggestions for the foal in the comments, and include a working email address so we can contact the finalists. Invite friends and family to participate.
- At midnight on Friday, April 22nd, we will select our top five names from all entries. The finalists will be posted on our Facebook page for voting over the weekend.

The foal stuck close to his mother and seemed perfectly content to pose for photos. He wasn’t shy about sniffing us and letting us reach out to touch him. He looked all knees and legs with a relatively large head, as many newborns do. Although foals are born able to stand and move quickly to avoid danger, this little one still seemed a bit unsteady and relied on his mother’s gentle nudges to find his footing.
