We were invited by IKEA and The Family Handyman to help promote a meaningful contest that will support the hardworking staff at your local firehouse.

This summer we visited our friend James, a firefighter with the Tucson Fire Department, and toured his station. The building is one of the oldest in Tucson, and the living quarters are decidedly modest. The most heavily used space was clearly the kitchen. Feeding roughly 15 firefighters three times a day puts a lot of strain on appliances, counters, and storage, and over time the kitchen shows the wear.
To help, we plan to nominate this crew for a $25,000 kitchen remodel from IKEA through the Rescue Remodel Contest. If selected, IKEA would supply a complete kitchen upgrade—from cabinets and appliances to cookware and food storage—designed to be practical, durable, and full of clever storage and organization solutions that suit a busy firehouse.

A refreshed kitchen would make everyday routines easier for these brave men and women and help maintain a cleaner, safer, more efficient communal space. It’s a small but meaningful way to give back to those who protect our communities.
Consider nominating your local firehouse for the Rescue Remodel Contest so they can receive a modern, functional kitchen tailored to the demands of life at the station.
