A recent survey conducted by American Express, reported by MarketWatch of The Wall Street Journal digital network, shows that most homeowners plan to continue investing in home improvements for the rest of the year. The results indicate that 62 percent of homeowners expect to spend an average of $6,200 on various projects. Younger professionals and higher-income homeowners are likely to undertake more projects than the average homeowner.
The survey highlights several trends in planned home improvements:
- Indoor remodeling is the most common focus, cited by 53 percent of respondents. Top priorities within this category include cosmetic updates (36 percent), redoing an entire room (25 percent), and installing new flooring (14 percent).
- Nearly one in three homeowners plan to remodel outdoor spaces, reflecting growing interest in enhancing yards, patios, and exterior living areas.
- More than two in five homeowners say they are making a conscious effort to choose environmentally friendly materials and green solutions when planning improvements.
These findings suggest a mix of cosmetic and functional upgrades, with an increasing emphasis on sustainability. Homeowners appear willing to invest in projects that both improve daily living and add long-term value to their properties.
