Father’s Day Gift Wishlist from My Dad

This year marks my third Father’s Day as a dad. The past two and a half years of fatherhood have been incredible — my wife and I have loved the journey of raising our son and watching him change and grow every day.

He’s firmly in the “mini-person” phase now, becoming increasingly independent at meal times. He opens the refrigerator to get his water and fruit, which is great — except that our fridge and freezer are now pushed to their limits.

Now that we’ve moved beyond the baby stage, we’re ready to invest in home upgrades that genuinely improve our daily life. I don’t need much for Father’s Day beyond a family hug, but Lowe’s asked what would be on my Father’s Day wish list, so I put one together focused on making our kitchen and entertaining areas more functional and enjoyable.

My top priority was better refrigeration and storage. We have an older split-level refrigerator that has worked for years but is awkward and cramped now that we’re a family of three. A French-door refrigerator was at the top of my list because it offers more usable space and better organization. I picked a KitchenAid French-door model that meets our needs and, importantly, fits through the narrow doorways of our 1930s house.

We also enjoy entertaining on our outdoor patio, where friends and family often bring wine and beer. Those bottles and cans take up a lot of refrigerator space. While we have wine racks for special bottles we’ve picked up during trips, a dedicated wine chiller would be a smarter, space-saving solution for chilling wine and other beverages for guests.

Inside the house, we mostly still eat at the dining table, but the current pendant light is inadequate — it lights a small spot rather than the whole room. Replacing it with a chandelier will instantly improve the dining area’s atmosphere and make family meals more inviting. We also recommend adding a dimmer switch to set the right mood; nobody wants to dine under harsh, overly bright lighting.

These upgrades — a French-door refrigerator, a wine chiller, and a stylish chandelier with a dimmer — are practical additions that would make daily life and hosting much easier and more enjoyable for our growing family.
