You don’t have to live with unsightly concrete cracks in your patio or walkway. Sakrete Concrete Crack Filler is a ready-to-use, polymer-based repair product designed to fill and seal cracks in concrete, helping prevent them from widening and causing further damage.
We’ve lived with concrete cracks in our backyard for years. In some places we cover them with an outdoor rug, but in many areas we simply accepted them. Over time the cracks widened and some edges began to chip—clear signs of deterioration. The most effective way to stop that progression is to fill the cracks, sealing them so water can’t erode the concrete further.
Some of our cracks have advanced enough that they need a heavy-duty repair, but many others can be restored using Sakrete Concrete Crack Filler. The application is straightforward and suitable for DIYers, but read and follow the product label and instructions for the best, longest-lasting results.
Sakrete Concrete Crack Filler is intended for cracks up to 1/2 inch wide and up to 1/4 inch deep, with a recommended width-to-depth ratio of 2:1. For larger or vertical cracks, consider Sakrete Non-Sag Sealant, a thicker adhesive-style sealant designed to stay in place without running. The Non-Sag Sealant remains tacky for about four hours, can be walked on after 24 hours, and fully cures in seven days. Once cured, it can be painted with latex paint if desired.
Sakrete also offers several concrete and masonry repair products suited to different needs, all accessible to homeowners. Options include Sakrete Mortar Repair, Sakrete Top’n Bond Concrete Patcher, and Sakrete Fast Setting Cement Patcher, each formulated to address specific repair challenges.
Sakrete Mortar Repair is a siliconized acrylic-latex compound for repairing mortar joints and cracks in masonry and concrete. It’s ideal for restoring deteriorated joints in block or brick walls, chimneys, or other masonry, and can be applied with a standard caulking gun for precise placement.
Sakrete Top’n Bond Concrete Patcher is a polymer-modified sand-cement repair mortar that mixes with clean potable water. It can fill cracks up to 1/2 inch and, once cured, achieves about 5,000 psi compressive strength. It’s well suited for repairing driveways, sidewalks, and concrete slabs, and can also level uneven surfaces, ramps, or stairs from 1/2 inch down to a feather edge. It’s suitable for indoor and outdoor use; do not use it with a bonding agent.
For larger or deeper repairs, Sakrete Fast Setting Cement Patcher is a pre-blended mix of cementitious materials, additives, and sand that sets in roughly 20 minutes. It’s formulated for repairs from 1/4 inch to 2 inches and also reaches about 5,000 psi. Because it can be used on vertical and horizontal surfaces and dries quickly, it’s an excellent choice for high-traffic areas: it’s open to foot traffic in around four hours and to vehicle traffic in about 24 hours.
Choosing the right product depends on the size and location of the repair. Sakrete provides helpful resources, including project guidance and a product calculator, to help determine which product fits your job and how much material you’ll need. Always read product labels and application instructions carefully to ensure proper conditions and techniques are followed for a durable repair.
We’ll share our repair results next week—hopefully they’ll encourage you to fix those concrete imperfections instead of continuing to live with a worn-looking patio.
