Shaw Floors & HGTV Home Design Challenge: Event Recap

I love my job. I had the honor of representing Charles & Hudson at Shaw Floors’ media event unveiling the company’s new flooring partnership with HGTV.

At the event we saw Shaw’s new products — some exciting innovations I’ll share more about later this week — and enjoyed an unforgettable tour of Asheville’s Biltmore House, a true national treasure. If you have the chance to visit, don’t hesitate.

On Wednesday and Thursday we traveled to the Tribuzio-Hilliard Studio in High Point, North Carolina, for a design challenge. Our task was to create a complete room using a selected Shaw HGTV flooring product, a paint color from Sherwin-Williams’ HGTV line, and furnishings and accessories drawn from Tribuzio-Hilliard’s extensive prop room. A special surprise guest joined us: Lisa LaPorta from HGTV’s Designed to Sell.

I teamed up with Julia from CasaSugar. We connected immediately over a shared love of gray, which made choosing our carpet easy.

Once we selected the gray carpet, we embraced bold color choices. We called our concept an urban bachelorette pad, and both Julia and I loved it so much we joked about moving in permanently. The room combines sleek, modern lines with lively accents to balance comfort and personality.

There’s much more to come: Timothy and I are planning additional content tied to the challenge, including possible giveaways and behind-the-scenes details. I can’t reveal everything yet, but stay tuned — there will be more photos, including professional shots, and in September you’ll have a chance to vote for your favorite among the five rooms during HGTV Month.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on our room. It was a fantastic experience — from the product previews and the Biltmore tour to collaborating with talented designers and working in an incredible studio. It’s going to be an exciting few weeks, and I hope you’ll follow along for the rest of the journey.
