This has been an extraordinary summer for us. We’ve been traveling across the country for media trips and even squeezed in a short trip to Paris for a babymoon. Yes — Laura and I are expecting a baby boy in September! We’re thrilled, and we decided to make this time even more special by launching a new website.
Built by Kids is a lifestyle site focused on sparking imagination, creativity, and hands-on skills in children everywhere. As screens play an ever-larger role in kids’ lives, we remember the joy of building forts and digging in sandboxes. Our mission is to bring that spirit back through playful, practical projects the whole family can enjoy.
Our tagline, The ABC’s of DIY, captures our goal: to become the go-to destination for engaging, kid-friendly projects that connect families, educators, and caregivers emotionally and practically. We also aim to foster an online community where people can share their own creations.

We’re curating our favorite BUILT by YOU projects to feature on the site, and we’re sure you have wonderful projects tucked away—or planned for this weekend. Why not bring one to life online?
How it works:
- Your submissions will be sorted into three categories: built BY your child, built WITH your child, and built FOR your child.
- We’ll choose our favorites and then open voting to our readers.
- The winner will receive a photo feature on the site, a substantive prize, and plenty of well-deserved bragging rights.
