The long-awaited Fisker electric SUV has arrived. The Fisker Ocean has been teased for months, and last week Henrik Fisker unveiled the vehicle in Los Angeles ahead of its display at CES 2020.
The Fisker Ocean will reach customers in 2021 and joins a growing field of electric SUVs aiming to compete with the Tesla Model X.
The Fisker Ocean’s U.S. starting price is $37,499 MSRP, which can effectively drop to $29,999 after eligible federal tax credits. A flexible lease option begins at $379 per month (U.S.), including maintenance and service. With the tax credit applied, the Ocean becomes an attractive option for families seeking an affordable electric SUV under $30,000.
Solar Roof
One of the most distinctive features of the Fisker Ocean is its full-length solar roof. Using the vehicle roof as a solar array is a practical way to capture energy that otherwise goes unused, yet few automakers offer this capability.
The integrated solar roof contributes to the vehicle’s electrical system, improving overall efficiency and reducing CO2 emissions. Fisker estimates the solar roof can deliver roughly 1,000 miles of free, clean driving per year under typical conditions.
As photovoltaic technology improves, Fisker plans to update its hardware and software integration to increase energy yield and provide additional free miles from solar charging.
Fisker Range
The Fisker Ocean is designed to offer an extended electric range, with a target of approximately 250 to 300 miles depending on driving conditions. This range is enabled by an approximate 80 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, balancing energy capacity and weight to meet everyday driving needs.
