The John Deere Gator lineup is celebrated for its durability, versatility, and enjoyment. For 2014, the range received targeted improvements focused on operator retention, winch capability, and model-specific performance upgrades to better serve trail riders, farmers, and jobsite users.
“Expanding the John Deere utility vehicle family gives us more opportunities to gather feedback from customers using Gators on trails, farms and worksites,” said David Gigandet, John Deere marketing manager for Gator utility vehicles. “Understanding customer needs helps us refine and improve our utility vehicles each year.”
Operator Side Retention (OSR) is now standard on all Gators equipped with an Operator Protective Structure (OPS). A net-style OSR is included as standard equipment on HPX, XUV heavy-duty, and mid-duty models. For some models, stylized poly doors are available as an option instead of the nets. The net design allows one-handed operation, excellent visibility, and easy ingress and egress. Optional stylized poly doors include automotive-style handles, color-matched panels, and a full 90-degree opening for straightforward entry and exit.

New Warn® ProVantage winches, rated at either 3,500 lb or 4,500 lb, increase pulling capacity by up to 1,500 lb compared with prior models. That added capacity delivers the reliability and pulling power needed for recovering a stuck vehicle on the trail or handling demanding tasks around the property.
The heavy-duty XUV models (625i, 825i, 855D) receive updates to the digital display and operator station. The revised digital gauge cluster adds a glow plug indicator for diesel models, a flashing water-temperature warning icon, and a power-steering indicator where power steering is fitted. New illuminated dash switches improve visibility and usability during low-light operation.
An optional Ag Management Solutions (AMS) integration kit is available for the heavy-duty XUVs. This kit provides dedicated mounting points for a StarFire receiver and GS display (both sold separately), enabling boundary mapping, obstacle flagging and soil sampling workflows directly from the vehicle.

The mid-duty XUVs (550, 550 S4) benefit from an upgraded braking system that reduces brake pedal effort by approximately 26 percent while improving pedal feedback, all without sacrificing braking performance.
All Gator XUVs are offered in several finishes, including Realtree® Hardwoods™ HD Camo, olive and black, or the classic John Deere green and yellow. Buyers can further customize their machines with more than 100 factory and dealer-installed attachments and accessories to match specific jobs and recreational uses.
