This year, Toyota celebrates more than six decades of Land Cruiser heritage with the introduction of the Toyota Land Cruiser Heritage Edition. Modeled to echo the spirit of the sought-after 1997 Anniversary Edition, this Heritage Edition is positioned as a collectible for Land Cruiser enthusiasts who value both tradition and capability.
The Land Cruiser’s global reputation is built on unmatched off-road capability and dependability. Toyota has long produced the Land Cruiser (and its luxury sibling, the Lexus LX 570) to rigorous standards, and the modern 2020–2021 models continue that tradition. The build quality and engineering emphasize longevity and reliability in all conditions.

The Heritage Edition features a vintage-style Land Cruiser badge on the rear pillar that evokes the classic FJ40 and FJ60 models. That distinctive emblem is a visual link to the Land Cruiser’s storied past, but the Heritage Edition also includes practical and performance-focused updates beyond its nostalgic styling.

Mechanically, the 2020/2021 Land Cruiser Heritage Edition retains the core elements that have made this platform a versatile and reliable 4×4 since 2008: the 5.7-liter V8, full-time four-wheel drive, and body-on-frame construction. Those fundamentals remain, but the Heritage Edition distinguishes itself with select features and visual upgrades that enhance both form and function.

Available Third Row
When it debuted in 2020, the Heritage Edition was offered as a two-row configuration to maximize cargo capacity. For 2021, Toyota added an available third-row option, making the Heritage Edition more accommodating for adventure-minded families who need extra seating without sacrificing the model’s rugged character.

The third-row seats fold away when not in use and are removable for times when additional cargo space is required. Offering a factory-installed third row gives buyers who favor the Heritage Edition flexibility—allowing them to choose a model that meets both family and expedition needs. The base Land Cruiser continues to come standard with a third row.
New Exterior Colors
Originally available in Midnight Black Metallic and Blizzard Pearl, the Heritage Edition’s palette now includes Classic Silver Metallic and Magnetic Gray Metallic. Among these finishes, Blizzard Pearl stands out as likely the most popular and potentially most collectible due to its timeless appeal.

While the metallic finishes complement the Heritage Edition’s aesthetic, there is room for additional non-metallic color choices in future model years for buyers who prefer more classic or utilitarian tones.
Land Cruiser Heritage Edition Upgrades
Beyond the Heritage badge, several deliberate upgrades enhance the edition’s appearance and utility. These changes make the Heritage Edition immediately recognizable while preserving the Land Cruiser’s off-road capability.

Notable exterior enhancements include a black-accented grille, bronze-colored BBS 18 x 8-inch forged aluminum wheels with a Toyota center cap, and a Yakima roof rack. Together they reinforce the Heritage Edition’s blend of classic styling and modern utility.
Although serious overlanders might prefer a heavy-duty expedition rack from brands like Front Runner, ARB, or Prinsu, the Yakima MegaWarrior roof rack provided on the Heritage Edition is sufficient for the vast majority of owners. It accommodates luggage, rooftop cargo systems, and recreational gear for trips to the slopes, beach, or trailhead.

The bronze BBS forged wheels are a significant upgrade in both aesthetics and performance. Forged aluminum wheels are stronger and lighter than typical cast-aluminum wheels, offering improved durability and handling. These wheels also appear on sought-after TRD Pro packages for other Toyota models, and their desirability carries over to the Heritage Edition.
How Much Does the Land Cruiser Heritage Cost?
For 2021, the Land Cruiser lineup maintains its premium interior appointments and functional features. The base Land Cruiser starts with an MSRP of approximately $85,415, while the Toyota Land Cruiser Heritage Edition begins at around $87,745. Adding the optional third-row seating increases the price by about $1,420.
While the Heritage Edition can push close to $90,000 when options are included, it remains a compelling choice for buyers who prioritize capability, comfort, and long-term value. Land Cruisers consistently hold strong resale values, making them a reliable investment for those who plan to keep and use their vehicle extensively.
