SEMA 2021 showcased many exciting products, and while much attention was on all-terrain and hybrid tires, Cooper’s new Discoverer Snow Claw winter tire immediately stood out.
The Discoverer Snow Claw represents Cooper’s latest advancement in tires for pickup trucks and SUVs designed specifically for extreme winter conditions.

Snow Groove Technology
A key feature of the Snow Claw is Cooper’s patented Snow Groove Technology. This design traps snow within the tread grooves so the tire can achieve snow-on-snow contact, which improves traction, handling, and braking performance compared with dry rubber sliding over snow.
If tread design ejects the snow and exposes only rubber, grip on snow will be reduced. By retaining snow in the grooves, the Snow Claw leverages the higher friction of snow-on-snow contact for better control in winter conditions.

The compound is formulated to remain flexible in extreme cold, and the tire is engineered to accept studs where additional ice traction is needed. These characteristics help maintain grip and responsiveness when temperatures drop and surfaces become slick.
Developed by engineers familiar with North American winter conditions, the Discoverer Snow Claw carries the Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake (3PMSF) symbol, indicating it meets severe-weather performance requirements for winter tires. That designation is an important consideration when selecting a tire you’ll use regularly in snow and severe winter weather.

Discoverer Snow Claw
“Winter weather is unpredictable; drivers need tires they can trust to get them where they need to go safely in even the most extreme conditions,” said Andrea Berryman, Director of Product Development at Cooper Tire. “With the addition of the new Discoverer® Snow Claw™ winter tires to the Cooper® lineup, truck and SUV drivers now have a tire option engineered for extreme ice traction and strong snow performance, which are essential for confidently navigating harsh winter roads.”

Availability
The Discoverer Snow Claw will not be available immediately; orders begin in April 2022 with consumer availability scheduled for October of that year. This timing aligns with typical seasonal stocking for winter tires.
