I’ve been an AT&T wireless customer since the first iPhone, and I recently learned that the company now offers home security and automation through AT&T Digital Life. Launched last year, Digital Life is available in 63 markets, and many AT&T retail stores have in-store displays that demonstrate how the system works.
During a visit to the Torrance showroom, an AT&T representative walked me through the system using a tablet, and also demonstrated control from her smartphone.
Home security is a top concern for families. Beyond protecting against break-ins, modern systems provide peace of mind by letting you confirm that doors are locked, lights are off, and the garage door is closed. The strength of AT&T Digital Life is its flexibility: you can manage it from nearly anywhere with a smartphone or any Wi‑Fi-enabled device.

In addition to direct control, the system supports automation routines. For example, choosing a “go to bed” routine can arm the security system, lock doors, and turn off lights simultaneously. You can receive notifications by email or text when a motion sensor is triggered or a door is unlocked, and customize alerts to suit your needs.
AT&T Digital Life offers a variety of devices and automation options to help you monitor and manage your home.
- Video cameras: Suitable for indoor or outdoor placement near main entrances, yards, or driveways to monitor activity.
- Automatic door locks: Each user can have a unique code for locking and unlocking. Locks are controllable remotely and can be included in automation routines.
- Thermostat control: Adjust temperature settings based on whether you are home or away, improving comfort and efficiency.
- Light control: Turn lights on or off remotely, schedule them, or trigger them automatically when sensors detect motion.
- Garage door sensor: Alerts you if the garage door is open or closed.
- Water shut-off: Flood-detection sensors can notify the system and be programmed to shut off the main water valve to reduce damage.
- Smart plugs: Remotely cut power to small appliances like irons or coffee makers (not suitable for large appliances such as stoves).

My overall impression after the demonstration is that a system like this suits many homeowners. Home security and automation have advanced significantly, and Digital Life is straightforward to use while offering meaningful convenience and safety benefits.

AT&T Digital Life is offered in two core packages. Simple Security includes door and window sensors, a wireless keypad, an indoor siren, and a keychain remote for basic on-the-go control. Smart Security adds more advanced security equipment and allows customers to include optional automation packages—such as door, energy, and camera features—to expand functionality.
Initial installation requires a technician, but additional cameras or sensors can be shipped to your home and installed with phone guidance from AT&T support. Digital Life requires a broadband Internet connection and access to AT&T’s wireless network, and it is compatible with any broadband provider.
AT&T Digital Life is available in select markets and service restrictions apply. Optional automation packages are available only with the Smart Security package. For details on availability, service restrictions, and licensing, consult AT&T’s official materials.
