Blaklader Brawny Canvas Jacket with Nearly Endless Pockets

Last year I tested a pair of Blaklader Brawny work pants with external pockets designed to remove the need for a tool belt. They proved comfortable and exceptionally durable, and came with two removable knee pads that eliminated the need for over-the-pants pads. Blaklader has produced durable workwear since 1959, and recently introduced its first jacket created specifically for North American contractors.

At first the jacket looked oversized, but it fit more snugly than it appeared. I prefer a roomy jacket but don’t like to feel like I’m swimming in fabric or wearing a box; the Blaklader jacket manages to be comfortable without feeling bulky.

The Brawny Canvas Jacket matches the pants for toughness. It’s constructed from 100% 12-ounce cotton, which is breathable and comfortable for extended wear. The jacket includes a mesh lining and bellows construction in the back and sleeves to allow greater freedom of movement, even when layering under colder conditions.

Thoughtful details such as a longer back and an adjustable waist help retain warmth and increase comfort when working outdoors.

Where this jacket truly stands out is in practical functionality. The Brawny Canvas Jacket offers more pockets than most jackets on the market, engineered to improve organization on the jobsite. It features eight front pockets designed for easy access, plus two zippered chest pockets suitable for securing a phone or storing pens. Additional front and side pockets accommodate tools, sleeves include pen pockets, and there are zipper pockets and two inner pockets for extra secure storage.

All these storage options make the jacket well suited for tradespeople who need to keep tools and devices on hand without relying on extra storage solutions.
