A step stool is a small but essential item in any home—especially when you have young children. At our house, our son is just tall enough that, with a stool, he can reach the sink to wash his hands. Encouraging independence and good hygiene is part of why a safe, sturdy stool matters.
While we’ve owned a few practical utility stools for general tasks, those models didn’t feel right for the bathroom or a child’s space. They were functional but lacked the look and user-friendly features that make a stool appropriate and inviting for kids.
To solve that, we built a storage step stool with features suited to a child’s daily routine. The design combines safe footing with a small storage compartment—perfect for keeping a washcloth, a toothbrush, or a few bath toys handy. When selecting or constructing a stool for kids, consider a few key points: stable, non-slip feet; a wide, comfortable standing platform; rounded edges to prevent bumps; and finishes that are safe for children and easy to clean. If you include storage, make sure any lid or compartment is easy to open and won’t pinch little fingers.
