Candidates should be available to work on-site a couple of days per week and commit to at least 20 hours weekly. We welcome bloggers, designers, students, photographers, English majors, and anyone passionate about home improvement, design, and do-it-yourself projects to apply.
This internship is demanding but highly educational. You will gain hands-on experience in the professional blogging and digital media environment. The ideal applicant is interested in a media career, curious and detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced setting.

The essentials

  • Writing experience is a strong advantage. It is not absolutely required, but applicants should be prepared to provide writing samples or links to published work. Journalism experience is especially valued.
  • A reliable laptop capable of light photo and video editing.
  • Familiarity with content management systems and web tools such as WordPress, Movable Type, FTP, and basic Photoshop. Experience using social platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest is important. If you maintain your own blog, please include it with your application.
  • The ability to follow instructions, work quickly, and absorb new skills—this role is designed for learning and professional growth.
  • Dependability and the ability to meet deadlines. The position is enjoyable and educational but requires dedication and focus.
  • Applicants must be 18 years or older.
  • The minimum time commitment is 20 hours per week; full-time availability is preferred.

What you’ll learn

  • Research and reporting: You will learn to gather and synthesize information from diverse sources to support editors and contribute to well-researched posts and projects.
  • Online sales and lead generation: Gain experience sourcing leads and writing effective email pitches to partners and advertisers.
  • Promotion and audience building: Learn strategies for promoting stories and growing readership through social media and other distribution channels.
  • Public relations literacy: Develop the ability to evaluate pitches from PR agencies and identify credible opportunities for editorial coverage.

You will build a foundational skill set for home improvement and design blogging, a valuable niche in today’s digital media landscape. The role also provides hands-on experience with a variety of digital tools and platforms used in content creation, editing, and promotion.
Compensation for this internship is unpaid, but interns may receive perks and college credit where applicable. To apply, please email your resume, weekly availability, and any relevant supporting materials, such as writing samples, blog links, or social media handles, to [email protected] with the subject line “internship.”
Candidates based in Los Angeles are preferred, though outstanding remote applicants will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
