Craftsman Lawn Tractor Cuts Corners — What Owners Should Know

At the Builders Show, Craftsman unveiled a notable technical advancement in lawn tractors. Although that may not sound dramatic at first, the improvement targets a common and frustrating problem for homeowners and landscapers alike: turning in tight spaces while using a sit-down mower.
One of the toughest challenges when mowing with a ride-on tractor is getting into narrow areas. When a tractor can’t make a tight turn, operators are forced to swing wide, reposition, and approach the area again in a straight line. That process wastes time, requires extra skill, and can cause unnecessary damage to the turf from repeated passes.
Craftsman’s new tight-turn technology aims to eliminate this inefficiency by delivering a turning radius as small as eight inches. The company’s research indicates that turning radius is a leading factor influencing most customers’ decisions when buying a lawn tractor, so adding this capability is intended to make their models more attractive. Craftsman expects the tighter turning performance to improve maneuverability around gardens, trees, and other obstacles, reduce mowing time, and minimize wear on lawns.

The tight-turn feature is scheduled to be included across the Craftsman lawn tractor lineup by March of this year, bringing improved handling and convenience to a wide range of their models. As manufacturers focus on usability and efficiency, innovations like this help owners maintain cleaner edges and tighter contours with less effort, while reducing fuel use and equipment strain from repeated maneuvers.
