Have you ever been stuck on a home decor project, unable to picture a finished room beyond bare drywall and exposed wiring? Or hesitated to try a bold color scheme because you’re afraid it will end in costly disappointment?
I felt the same way, which is why I was excited to discover OlioBoard — a user-friendly site that helps you build mood boards for rooms using real, purchasable products from accessible brands like West Elm, IKEA, and Graham & Brown.
OlioBoard describes a board as “yours to craft — an interactive tool to experiment with the style and mood of a space.” The platform encourages you to gather sets of items to represent your ideal living area. You can experiment with furniture, textiles, paint, and accessories, then share your ideas with the community to get feedback and practical suggestions before buying a single chair or picture frame.
I spent some time exploring the site and can already tell it will be useful in the coming months, especially as I work to finish several rooms while juggling the demands of a newborn and a toddler. Between sleepless nights and the nonstop needs of two very young children, I don’t always have the bandwidth to mentally test different design directions — and OlioBoard makes that process much simpler.
One feature I appreciate is that the site uses real items you can actually buy. That feels far more practical than browsing aspirational, high-end designer renderings that look beautiful but are often unrealistic in price and availability. With OlioBoard, the pieces you place on a board can be ordered if they fit your space and budget, so experimentation leads directly to actionable results.
I’ve already created an account and plan to assemble a mood board this week. If you’d like, hop over to OlioBoard and take a look — I’d love your feedback on my choices. And while you’re there, feel free to create a board of your own; I’ll browse it for inspiration too.
