DeWalt Launches New Compact Drill/Driver and Hammer Drill

The DEWALT 20V MAX XR line advances with the introduction of two premium 3-speed cordless drills: the 3-Speed Drill/Driver (DCD991) and the 3-Speed Hammer Drill (DCD996).

Both models use brushless motors and bring notable improvements over previous 18V designs in technology, power, and speed. The brushless motor delivers 820 Units Watts Out (UWO), enabling faster application speeds. Combined with DEWALT’s proprietary 3-speed transmission, these tools provide selectable power and speed ranges suitable for demanding tasks, including driving 2-9/16″ self-feed bits. Compact and well-balanced, the DCD996 hammer drill measures just 8.4 inches in length and weighs 4.7 pounds, while offering up to 2.8 times faster application speed in its highest hammering range (up to 0–38,250 BPM and 2,250 RPM), up to 82% more power, and as much as 2.8 times more runtime compared to earlier models.

An ultra-bright LED at the base of each unit produces 60 lumens and offers three modes, including a spotlight function with a 20-minute delay—useful for working in dimly lit areas on job sites.

The DEWALT 20V MAX ecosystem now includes more than 70 tools, both brushed and brushless. For users who still own DEWALT 18V tools but want to begin adopting 20V MAX batteries, DEWALT offers a 20V MAX Battery Adapter (DCA1820***) that enables compatibility between most 18V tools and the newer 20V MAX battery technology. Both the DCD991 and DCD996 are backed by a 3-year limited warranty, a 90-day money-back guarantee, and a 1-year free service contract. These models are available where DEWALT products are sold.
