Our friend Janis recently welcomed a baby boy who is about a month older than our son, so they’ve already become great playmates. She lives just down the street in a one-bedroom condo and shares her home with her dog, Sake.
Although Janis keeps a tidy home, she realized that preparing for the baby meant making a few updates—one of the most important being new carpet. Her existing carpet looked relatively clean but showed wear in high-traffic areas and had trapped dirt and dog hair that was difficult to remove. When selecting new flooring, she wanted something stain-resistant, easy to clean, and available in a color that matched her style.
We recommended she visit Lowe’s, where she already shops, and consider the SolarMax line from STAINMASTER. It carries a lifetime warranty against stains and soiling, 25 years against fading, and 15 years against abrasive wear. A strong warranty appealed to Janis since she didn’t want to worry about replacing the carpet soon. Shopping at Lowe’s also allowed her to choose the color and arrange installation the same day.
Janis selected a white-beige tone that complements the honey-colored wood floors in her dining and living areas. She scheduled the installation, and we followed along to document the process.
Because the installers needed clear access, all furniture had to be moved. With a newborn at home, Janis couldn’t handle that herself, but Lowe’s installation team provides furniture moving as part of the service. They carefully moved items to the balcony and began removing the old carpet.

The crew quickly secured the new carpet padding and, in about two hours, had carpeted the three rooms.

After installation they carefully returned the furniture to its original positions and removed the old padding and carpet from the residence.
Knowing her son could safely play on a fresh, clean surface that stands up to spills made the upgrade well worth it for Janis.

Janis is very pleased with the finished result and praised how professional and courteous the installers were. Preparing a home for a newborn is often stressful, but in her case, the process was straightforward and low-stress thanks to the installation service.
