I wasn’t always someone who used a protective case, but after losing my last iPhone to a shattered screen, I quickly changed my mind. Recently I had the chance to try a couple of new cases from tech21 that offer strong protection with different feature sets depending on what you prefer. Below is my review of the slim and protective tech21 Evo Mesh iPhone 6 case.
I favor a minimal case because I carry my phone in my pocket and want to keep the overall profile as slim as possible. The iPhone 6 is already tall, so any added bulk becomes noticeable when carrying it in a pocket. The tech21 Evo Mesh Case is the thinnest protective case I’ve come across, and after a week of everyday use I’m convinced it offers nearly the same level of protection as much thicker alternatives.
I’ve carried an Otterbox case for a long time because it’s sturdy and reasonably slim, but the Evo Mesh is even thinner and offers a softer grip that feels nicer in hand and is less likely to slip. If it does slip, the Evo Mesh still provides strong protection: its FlexShock™ material cushions impacts to the back and corners and is rated for drops up to about 6.6 feet.
The gel-like material resists sliding off tables and countertops, and during my testing it did not trap dust, lint, or pocket debris beneath the cover despite being carried in my pocket all day.
With the Evo Mesh Case, the iPhone feels like it has a lightweight second skin. It slides smoothly into front or back pockets, and the dark red and black color I tried delivers an understated look. Tech21 also offers this case in five different colors for anyone wanting a brighter or more distinctive finish.
The Evo Mesh covers the back, sides, and corners but not the front screen. For full 360-degree protection with minimal bulk, tech21 offers Impact Shield screen protectors that pair well with the Evo Mesh. The Impact Shield maintains touch sensitivity and typing performance and, unlike some glass protectors, resists peeling and bubbling.
Impact Shield uses BulletShield™ technology and is marketed as self-healing and scratch-resistant. It comes with an applicator kit that includes a cleaning wipe, an application guide, and a card to help remove air bubbles during installation.
