Transform Your Room with Stylish Wallplate Designs

Wallplates are often treated as a minor detail that simply covers the gap around an outlet or switch, but the right plate can influence a room’s overall style and feel. Leviton has long produced wallplates and continues to refine their designs to match current trends while complementing their modern switches, outlets, and dimmers.

Traditional wallplates are mounted around switches or outlets with two visible screws. This long-standing method remains popular, but homeowners seeking a cleaner, more contemporary appearance increasingly choose screwless, seamless wallplates that snap into place without visible holes. At the Dahl House we wanted that streamlined look and needed to replace several painted, mismatched, and worn plates.

We were pleased to stick with Leviton after installing their smart dimmers and outlets. Their Decora Plus screwless wallplates offer a subtle, modern aesthetic and simply snap over a mounted subplate so there are no visible mounting or subplate screws. Available in a wide selection of sizes and colors, they make it easy to match paint or wall coverings. For most of the house we chose white to coordinate with the existing paint, while in our den we selected options that blend with the black painted wainscoting.

Installation is straightforward: a subplate is screwed to the Decora device, and the screwless cover “hooks and snaps” into place. Removal is simple, too—apply light pressure with a screwdriver between the two connecting parts at the bottom and the cover releases. Decora Plus plates are made from durable polycarbonate, so they stand up well to daily wear and frequent touching. Leviton also offers standard wallplates in many colors, allowing you to upgrade the look of your home without changing existing switches, dimmers, or outlets.

For households concerned about germs, Leviton offers antimicrobial-treated switches and wallplates designed to inhibit bacterial growth on frequently touched surfaces between regular cleanings. This treatment uses an additive incorporated into the product material to reduce microbial presence. While routine cleaning is still recommended, antimicrobial-treated devices can be a useful supplement—especially for homes with children, and in environments such as schools, hospitals, and other public spaces where limiting contamination is important.

Overall, we’re very pleased with the appearance and performance of our Leviton products. Upgrading old outlets, switches, and plates to Leviton’s Decora switches, outlets, dimmers, and screwless wallplates delivers a noticeable, cost-effective improvement to a home’s interior.
